Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My third graders are bilingual, active, engaged learners - in math, reading, and other subjects. They absolutely love to learn new things!
They enjoy a variety of learning resources, from print to digital media.
It's a treat for them to be able to get on the computer and do research there or even read books.
They also love practicing their math on the computers, however I don't always have computers available to my students because they're shared with another class.
My Project
Tablets in the classroom are a wonderful teaching tool. Though my 3rd graders have district Chromebooks, I share the classroom set with another 3rd grade teacher. Having two iPads in the classroom would allow for greater flexibility in teaching math, science, and language arts.
This project will support my students' growth as readers, scientists, artists, and math wizards by providing iPad tablets for them to use with a variety of applications.
Students would use Moby Math, which is a program that plugs students into a math module that is specifically geared to each child's math proficiency level. The program tracked each students progress and gave level-appropriate problems.
They would also use reading apps designed to engage reluctant readers, and accelerate reading skills of stronger readers.
I would also use tablets to create quizzes and be able to receive student answers in realtime on my own device (phone), allowing me to get instant feedback and adjust my teaching.
