Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Like most children, my students come to school willing to learn and are capable of success. I have a very diverse classroom consisting of 80% English Language Learners and Special Education students. Many lack the background knowledge of their peers due to the lack of exposure to literacy and experiences. I have the amazing opportunity to create the feeling of success for my students- some for the very first time of their educational paths. When students feel safe to learn and feel even just the slightest bit of success, amazing things take place! I make every attempt to expose my students to as much as I can within my classroom. Having all of the supplies necessary to do so, can be overwhelming and difficult.
My Project
Currently, my third-grade students take turns using our two classroom issued laptops and are always thrilled when it is their day to engage in developing individual reading and math skills while using the technology. I recognize the importance of exposing children to meaningful technology at an early age and the substantial benefits of engaging students in technology-integrated literacy and math activities.
I am requesting 3 class iPads and cases for my students so that these differentiated literacy experiences can become more frequent and all students can participate.
80% of my students are English Language Learners or Special Education students, so our classroom needs vary greatly. With iPads, my students will be able to use rigorously researched apps that enhance phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension along with math fluency-all of which are essential in order to become a proficient reader and mathematicians.
