Mrs.Christi and Mrs.Thompson have a very diverse group of kindergartners in our small town school. Our students are five to six years old and range in capabilities. We have a student that can read on a sixth grade level and some that have special needs. As diverse as they may be in the educational needs, they all share a desire and love to learn.
One common thread between them is that we do not live in a community with a lot of money.
Many have lost their jobs either in the coal mines or the steel mill. As a result of the coal mines and steel mills shutting down, our school system has also lost a lot funding. As educators, we spend a lot of money out of our own pockets to meet most of our classroom needs. Even though its been rough in our community, in our classroom, we are one big upbeat, happy, positive learning family in our kindergarten room. In this room, the students and learning always comes first.
My Project
Our classroom is in great need of some technology. You may wonder why six iPads. Well six because that’s how many students are in each center and it’s too much to ask for an entire classroom of iPads lol.
iPads are used to answer the most inquisitive mind, a five year old's mind!!!!
We will use these in such a multitude of ways. As mentioned, centers are a daily morning activity we split the class up into 4 groups of 6 and each table has a different activity from math, writing, reading, science and history. It changes every single day. We love to use Brainpop Jr. specifically because we can target a history lesson, a science lesson or even manners. This center is always hands off, meaning Mrs. T And Mrs. C can sit at two other center tables, giving almost one on one teaching with other subjects. It’s my favorite time to teach, it really frees us up to individually help our students on personal level. Trust me every kid, no matter how smart needs that. Thank you in advance for your help and your donation.
