Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of my students do not have access to the internet, iPads, or computers at home. It is crucial that this access be given to them at school in order to further their learning. You could help provide my students with the opportunity they have never had to use technology in their everyday learning!
The students in my classroom range from middle class working families to homeless students.
Most students are without access to the use of technology at home so its use in the classroom is critical. About 50% of the students at our school qualify for free or reduced rate lunch. Many students at our school live in a weekly motel and have no permanent residence. Despite the range of socioeconomic diversity at our school, my students love each other, help each other, and learn from each other every day!
My Project
My students will use iPads during center time to access apps that allow them to listen to stories and read at their level. They will create projects that show their learning through videoing each other, creating slide shows, and drawing what they know. Students will also use iPads during math to express their thinking using apps that allow them to practice math facts and skills they are focusing on. It will provide them with another way to enhance their skills and engage them in learning.
This project will make a difference in my classroom as it will provide students that have little access to technology the ability to use it daily in our classroom.
It will allow me to provide my students with engaging and rigorous activities that the students will be able to actively involve themselves in during whole group lessons in reading and math, as well as centers. It gives them the ability to work independently and challenge themselves in a way they have not yet had the opportunity.
