Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I feel so fortunate to have the privilege of being a Dual Language Immersion teacher at an incredible elementary school in California. Our school offers a unique two-way immersion program with the goal of fostering children’s development of fluency in communication and literacy in two languages, English and Spanish. I am thrilled to be part of this two-way immersion program and believe strongly in its goals. My students are amazing! They are learning to read, write, speak and listen in both Spanish and English as well as reaching for mastery of all academic content standards, including math and science.
We value our students and their families and stress the importance of building community and appreciating differences in culture.
My class is comprised of English Language Learners and students learning to speak Spanish for the first time. My students enjoy working together and helping each other become more proficient in their new language. I love seeing my students turn to each other and ask “Como se dice…” or “How do you say...” because that shows me they are building relationships and learning together!
My Project
My class needs two more iPads to continue to enhance their learning and create a more student-centered environment. Thanks to the generosity of past donors and DonorsChoose.org, we currently have two iPads that my students get so excited to use during center time. Two more iPads would allow more students to be able to benefit from our technology center, which is a class favorite. Students learn best when they are engaged and play an active role in their own learning. Students will use the iPads during our center time to practice their reading fluency, math skills, and document their own learning - all while learning how to effectively use technology in the classroom. Students will use the iPads to record themselves reading books, take pictures of their work, or make videos of their learning by using the app Seesaw.
iPads allow students to become more independent learners while allowing me to differentiate and collect data to guide my instruction.
Technology is ever increasing and so important in today's world. The use of multiple iPads in the classroom will help my students become more confident with technology and allow them the opportunity to enhance their learning. Help me continue to make learning more fun and engaging for my students by incorporating more technology into our classroom through this project!
