We are so lucky to have a diversity of students walking through our doors and into our classrooms every day, diversity in ethnicity, language, socioeconomic background, and religion, to name a few. Our school community values the contributions of all students, and art is a place where students can really find their voice and shine. They love to draw and paint, but learning about clay sculpture and creating stop motion animation are major highlights for our student artists. Exploration and perseverance are a major part of what students experience within the art studio.
My Project
Before the pandemic, my students were very motivated by our yearly "Stop Motion Animation" unit. It is a valuable opportunity for students to create visual stories with the magic of animation, develop critical thinking and math skills as students problem solve to plan and create their videos. However, the current iPads at our school are not always accessible for art, and many need replacing.
During the remote learning of 2020-2021, student interest in technology skyrocketed with increased access and need.
Many students began using digital drawing and 3-D modeling programs. With the use of art room Pads, those skills and interests can continue to be nourished.
