My first-grade classroom is a place where students can explore and wonder about the world. We learn in traditional and non-traditional ways, often using place-based learning to enhance students’ learning. Therefore, we like to get out of the classroom whenever we can to visit places of significance within our community to expand our students’ base of knowledge.
This wonderful group of 23 students come from diverse ethnic, socio-economic backgrounds, and have varied behavioral and academic levels.
This makes for a dynamic learning environment where we all learn from one another and share a passion for learning. We have an imaginative bunch of students who enjoy showing their creativity in unique and interesting ways. They love cross-curriculum learning and especially when we combine science, ELA, art, and math. It really gets their creative juices flowing! Our school strives to produce lifelong learners through our safe, nurturing, and academically stimulating environment. Not only do we push for our students to succeed in academics, but also to be responsible, confident, and caring. We strive to instill these values in our students through classroom learning, enrichment and resource courses, and a positive learning environment.
My Project
These two iPads will help our students to tap into a vast array of technology that will allow them to explore the wonders of the world beyond our classroom, and to use their imagination to create and set them on a path as the future innovators of our time. I have 23 wonderful and eager-to-learn students in my class, but fall well short of my goal of 1 iPad per student. With access to these iPads my students will experience online lessons, practice, tutorials, resources, games, and assessments. Those who may not have the means to purchase computers at home may have an opportunity to experience utilizing those resources in the classroom. They can be part of a community striving to better themselves and their education through the effective use of technology.
