iPads for 6th Grade!

My students need iPads in order to promote an integration of technology in the classroom to improve math and reading skills through various applications and programs.

My Students

A typical day in my classroom is filled with energy, laughter, and hard work. With the integration of iPads, my students will be in a more student-centered environment where they will be able to explore, create, and review their skills in order to be proficient in mathematics and reading.

Our school is a very personable and passionate school.

Every faculty member wants the best for every student and will go above and beyond to reach the needs of all. With a large range of student ability, it is important that we accommodate and modify these needs using every strategy, technological source, and ounce of energy we have! My middle school students are determined to make themselves better people and students every day. They work hard, try their best, and want to always make their peers, friends, teachers, and parents proud. However, many students do not have access to technology outside of school due to financial restraints . In the 21st century, most careers and college programs require the use of technology to be successful. I am determined to prepare my students at an early age so they have success and are fluent in technology through all subject areas to have success in their education and future.

My Project

With new iPads, our students will be able to explore, create, and learn new information through applications and programs on the Internet. Our district uses various programs online to assess and monitor student achievement. iPads will give them further opportunities to use these programs throughout the day. Our students receive additional reading/comprehension practice, as well as mathematical explorations in order to math skills into the real world. The addition of iPads in our classroom will give our classroom a more student-centered environment every day. As a math teacher, I have created many stations and centers where students can check their work and answers by scanning a QR code to see if they are correct. Students find these very engaging, but we have very limited access to the materials needed for this to work efficiently. These iPads would be an outstanding and engaging addition to our classroom!

This project will further ready my students for college and career readiness in the 21st century.

However, with limited access to the materials needed to have success, we rarely have an opportunity to integrate technology in our classroom to make this happen. In the future, I would like to also use the iPads to incorporate an online classroom and blog for students to communicate and check the assignments completed in class and the homework for that evening.
