This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 8 and 9 year-old 3rd graders amongst a school population of which 78% are African American and 75% are low-income. Although many school-aged children have access to some sort of technology, many students in my classroom don't have that luxury.
My students are talented, eager, and creative learners.
They look forward to collaboration, projects, and creation. Many of my students learn to use and expand their technology skills here at school due to the lack of technology or internet availability at home. Better access to technology at school will help bridge the technology skill gap they may face in the workforce.
My Project
My elementary-aged students will be able to inch closer to being 1 to 1 with an iPad tablet. This resource has already allowed students to accomplish amazing work in the classroom. In the past, they have created digital books, recorded STEM fair projects, collaborated on Google software projects, and also accessed individualized learning software programs that are tailored to their specific skills.
Students have some access to iPads in the classroom, which has already produced some amazing work.
However, they are currently sharing them in a rotation. A full set will allow our students to all work at the same time and will optimize classroom time.
