Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Elementary Art at a rural, Title 1 School. Almost half of our student population is of Latino origin, and we also have high numbers of students that qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.
Many of our students begin Kindergarten without being able to speak English.
My students come to art once a week for 55 minutes. Coming from high poverty households, many of my students have little or no art experience outside of school.
It is my responsibility to provide them with a well rounded visual art experience that exposes them to artists, art history and a variety of mediums.
My Project
Our iPad's will be used in the art room for hands-on learning about photography. My students are already interested in technology and picture taking, all they need is the right tools to get them started taking their own photos and editing them!
After investigating famous photographers, students will work in small groups to explore our school building and grounds as they learn more about the art of photography.
Then their pictures can be edited using a variety of apps that will allow them to crop, adjust lighting, and add vignettes.
Once my art students have learned the basics, the options of iPad photography are endless! They can create silhouettes, kaleidoscope effects, and photo collages.
