This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
“Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.” — Frederick Douglass
Unfortunately, our community was devastated by Hurricane Harvey.
We lost ten days of instruction, and many of our students lost their homes with all their belongings. Our school also took in flood waters. Sadly, I lost several resources and books.
I teach in a low income school, and the majority of my students receive free lunch. Each day is different and unique in my classroom. My students come to school overcoming many obstacles in their home life. My students love computers and technology. Having iPad minis will help put endless eBooks in their hands. Help my students learn to read!
My Project
My students will use ipads to access eBooks from a digital library. Being able to read and to experience learning digitally will inspire a passion for inquiry and lifelong learning. Using ipads to read endless eBooks will transform my students’ literacy experience and improve reading skills. As digital natives, my students need to learn how to be responsible digital citizens and to be aware of the digital footprint they leave in the world. Having access to ipads in the classroom will enable this important learning, and guide them as they navigate the internet world safely. Digital literacy is imperative for 21 Century learning.
