Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a teacher to 25 intelligent, resourceful and energetic students in a 5th grade monolingual classroom in Waukegan, IL. Over 90% of my students come from hardworking, minority families. At the same time, most of my students live in a low income, high needs community. I want my classroom to be an environment where they come in excited and eager to learn. To achieve this, I want to give them as many updated and modern tools as I can to create independent and lifelong learners.
My Project
The iPads and keyboards in this project will open up a new world of information within our classroom. My students will use these materials to access their math, science, and reading curriculum online. The apps and programming available on the iPads allow for greater differentiation so that all needs of all students may be met on an individualized basis. At the same time, my students will grow in their digital literacy and research skills, that will benefit them as they advance through their education and careers.
These iPads and keyboards will ensure that my students have a wealth of knowledge available at their finger tips.
The opportunities these devices provide are endless, from research to paper writing and from group work and collaboration to individualized assessment. Technology has become such an integral part of our society that the sooner students learn to navigate with technology, the better chance they have at being successful in life.
