A typical day in our Kindergarten classroom is busy! We are moving every 15 minutes, learning how to transition from one activity to the next. We have reading and writing in the mornings and math, social studies, and science in the afternoons.
Our school is considered a low income school due to the high percentage of free and reduced lunches.
Many of my students do not get to experience technology at home and they have a very limited amount of technology that they are able to access at school. As technology is used more for the older children then the young ones.
My Project
In Kindergarten, kids come at all different levels. Because of this I often need to pull small groups where I can work with students on concepts they need extra support. When I'm working with five students, the other 20 need to kept actively engaged. I like to keep them working in small centers. Using the pad mini will help me to create one more interactive center for my students to work at while I work with the other students.
The pad mini will also help to document my students and their progress in the classroom. Using apps in the classroom also allows me to have children work individually on items they need to work on. Today, with so many apps, I can record the students and their reading, time them on math facts, and then keep a chart of their success.
In Kindergarten we have to document their first six weeks of school and then send the data to the state.
The hardest part is not being able to look back what you documented. The iPad would allow me to record what they are doing and then be able to go back to accurately document specifically what I see and what they are doing.
Then based on their scores, I will be able to give each child their own folder where they will have apps that are suited for their needs.
