iPad: Technology To Meet Students' Special, Individual Needs
My students need access to technology, an iPad, to help solidify their understanding, express themselves to the fullest, and challenge themselves to extend their learning.
The world is expanding and technology is the key to bringing us together. My students, whose needs vary greatly would benefit from an iPad as a classroom tool to help them reach their full potential.
I teach 23 wonderfully creative, curious, and resourceful children.
They are engaged and really enjoy learning, but they have incredibly different needs. My students range widely in abilities; I have a handful of students who have fine motor skill deficits, who often need help transcribing their written work, others need skills and standards reviewed using multiple methods in order to get solidified and truly understood. And I have children who are exceptional and gifted who could use technology to really open up their learning in a new way. I have used iPads in the classroom before and have been amazed at all of the educational implications they offer to both teachers and students. I would love to offer this to the students I am currently working with as well as future students of mine.
My Project
The world relies on technology, yet our schools are deeply lacking in providing opportunities for students to interact with it. It is my personal and professional goal to make my children as prepared as they can be for 21st century learning and to compete in the workforce when they graduate.
I-Pads can be used in a myriad of ways- basic review using the countless apps that are available, games to practice math skills, spelling, and their reading skills. They can also help spark creativity for writing ideas. The science and social studies apps open up the student learning and connect what they are studying to the real world- not just text book learning. As a teacher, it opens up a world of possibilities for me as well. There are communities and courses for teachers to share ideas, learn new ones, and support each other as we develop our own technology skills. I have a Smartboard in my classroom that is able to connect the iPad, to make my teaching even more engaging and integrated.
I want to give my students every opportunity to be engaged and to take charge of their own learning.
We know that students who are invested in what they are learning far surpass those students who take a more passive approach to learning. By incorporating technology in the classroom and into my daily teaching, I am opening more doors and hopefully inspiring more children. I greatly appreciate your dedication to helping teachers and the students in our global world. Thank you for your help!
