I have a very eclectic bunch of students. There are many personalities and many different types of learners. Like John Dewey said, "If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow."
My students are all very unique in their own ways.
They have many likes and interests. They have extremely positive outlooks on life despite their young age and misfortunes. Many students are exhausted from their daily lives, and are just trying to make it through the day. Our school is in a high poverty area, and most student's don't have very many luxuries, in their educational or home lives. Technology is an area that is lacking at school and at home. My students use their creativity to provide opportunities for themselves. They are quite impressive.
My Project
My students will be so excited to have the opportunity to have iPad Minis in the classroom. They would use them to learn and explore. I plan to provide applications on the units that will encourage the students to practice math and science related topics. Math applications will help with topics such as basic math facts, measurement, time, money, fractions, sorting, and many other. The science apps will help them explore many different disciplines of science. My class is very fond of space and prehistoric life, and the iPads would allow students to visualize and see a vast array of new information.
This project will create such a positive impact on my class.
The iPads will provide so much happiness and excitement. As a teacher, my goal is to try and provide all positive experiences, while the students are at school. It is so hard to fathom the weight that some of them bare on their little shoulders. The iPads, that many of them are unfamiliar with, will create a greater sense of pride and accomplishment in their learning.
