My classroom is home to an interactive diverse group of 70 students who rotate into my class for an hour of math instruction. Our school serves pre-k students all the way through fifth grade where my students are the oldest in the school. We are a school that is considered "low socio-economic".
What we are high in is curiosity, love for one another and excitement for learning.
My kids are interested, they want to learn! They all want to be involved in their learning and work together toward a common goal. We especially love using technology to create projects!
My Project
In my school district, we are so blessed to have iPads issued to every student. However, after years of use, the charging cords are starting to malfunction. We can not use this amazing equipment unless it is charged and in great working order.
Learning to care for our technology is as important as learning to use it.
We will, through these materials, keep our class set of iPads charged, clean and ready for use. The zip ties keep the charging blocks secure so they won't fall on the floor as they do currently. On the side of our iPad charging cart, I will use a pencil parking chart to hold cords for mobile use after hooking it to removable hooks.
The projects we create using this technology is great for learning. We use our iPads in connection with "old fashioned" methods like paper and pencil. We can use our iPad to research and take notes on paper using a printed graphic organizer. We also can use our iPads to create amazing presentations using a number of apps.
I plan to start the next school year with an exciting math project where my students create a book using the Pages app to explain their solution to a fraction challenge problem about dividing a whole number of sandwiches between an odd number of people.
