Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
During this difficult time of distance learning, I am doing my best to help keep my students engaged. Our district closed with no prior notice, causing many of my teaching materials to be left behind in the classroom.
I have not been allowed to go into the building to get any materials that would assist me as I work with my students through distance learning.
Many of my students do not have their own device to use while they are home, and some have borrowed a device from the school district. Despite these challenges, they really enjoy being able to connect with me through video conferences as well as a read-aloud and other videos I have shared with the families. Having some additional resources would allow me to make the most of the situation for all of us.
My Project
During this time of distance learning due to Covid-19, I have used my creativity to keep my students engaged. They have a structured online program to work on for the core subject areas of language arts, math, science, and social studies. However, it is also important for me to stay connected with them as a class. My technology and options are limited because I am unable to go to my school to gather any materials and belongings I would usually use with my class.
An iPad, case, Apple Pencil, and Osmo would allow me to integrate more technology and activities into my video conferences, lessons, and videos that I post for my class.
I can use the Osmo for interactive word work and math lessons. It can also be used as a projector to show books and other activities to my students through a video. The Apple Pencil and case would allow me to model instruction in videos, create lessons and activities for them to work on, as well as to plan for next year. These materials will help my students learn the content that they are working on through the distance learning online program. It will allow them to learn the subjects through various ways to help them meet the standards. Thank you so much.
