iPad Needed to Encourage Phonics

My Students

My 5th grade classroom is filled with inspired readers. I work to instill the love of reading in all my students because I value the benefits to each child. Reading brings them closer to an idea for writing, understanding a math problem, or even reliving history. We read on Chromebooks and would also use IPads if available. Students need options when taking notes and completing vocabulary.

Are you smarter than a 5th grader?

Our yearly challenge is to have students throughout school answer questions targeted at a 5th grade level. Students can demonstrate their skills all year. When they split up into guided reading groups, we also select questions to ask as part of our challenge to other grades based on the book they are reading.

My Project

This iPad and case will benefit the students who need an alternate method to note-taking and answering questions in a workbook. In adding the co-writer app on the iPad, students can then type up the notes or take pictures and fill in the answers right on the iPad. We don't have many students who need to use this so one iPad will last much longer and the case will keep it protected.

Special accommodations are needed when students struggle with phonics and there are not always special education materials available.

This iPad will provide years of beneficial use for students with those special literacy needs.
