My Students

Imagine seeing a picture or video clip of a real giraffe or an elephant in its natural environment before a lesson begins.

My students are California kindergarteners, most attending their local charter school.

We are a diverse group and the peer interaction in our classroom could nearly drive instruction for much of the year. There are so many "teachable moments", it is sometimes difficult to determine which detours to follow. Twenty five percent of my students are English Language Learners.

My Project

An iPad is needed in our classroom for DIBELS assessments, but it will be used for so much more. I plan to use it for my front of the classroom computer with our interactive whiteboard. The computer we use now is very old and will not work with the BrightLinks we are expecting to arrive any day now.

DIBELS assessments are one tool that is used to help to determine a student's language arts progress.

This information is critical when planning future lessons. The iPad will also enable me to bring real life examples into the classroom when teaching. These strategies help to develop critical thinking skills as students raise questions and make observations about what they see. It is undeniable that technology in the classroom is essential.
