My classroom is abuzz with learning and fun. They have such great ideas for stories, but most have fine motor and writing delays that do not allow them to get their creativity down on paper they way they would like.
My students are in a K-2 special education program.
Our school has a very high poverty rate, with all students receiving free lunch and breakfast. All of my student love school and learning, even if things may be hard for them. We have had an influx of students this year, and the numbers of students I serve is starting out higher than ever and growing rapidly. I would love to be able to help them succeed even through their challenges.
My Project
My students need access to two iPads and keyboards in my Special Education Classroom. In my classroom, it is my goal to provide my students with experiences that will get them ready for life in the 21st century. For this to happen for my students, an early start into using technology is very important due to their learning needs and accessibility issues. iPads can provide students with an easy to use technology tool that can have a tremendous impact on developing educational skills. There are thousands of applications available, many for free, that can be used to help remediate struggling learners as well as provide my special needs students with access to communication, scheduling, dictation, and typing tools that can enhance their educational experience. Engagement is always a factor for young students. The interactivity and ever changing apps available on iPads make them a cost effective tool that continues to offer engaging learning activities for students with diverse needs.
This project will help me to provide needed tools for my students.
To many people an iPad seems like a toy, but in reality it is a tool that can help my students gain access to the general education curriculum through using the many educational apps that are available.
