My students need 5 Apple iPad minis with screen protectors and protective cases. These devices will enable students to take digital quizzes, be creative, collaborative, and explore music learning related to our lessons.
All of my 974 students in grades K-5 are inquisitive, creative, and technology-loving music makers! They love to work with their classmates on various music projects and activities. Each student has something unique to contribute to and share with the class. Our school is in session year-round. Our students come from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds with over 13% of our students receiving free lunch. There is a wide range of languages and cultures among the students in my classroom. 5.6% of our students are Limited English Proficient. I also service our AU1 and AU2 autistic students through individual and mainstreaming classes. My students greatly benefit from differentiated instruction that engages them in developing 21st century skills. I'm hoping to provide students with interactive opportunities that allow them to create, explore, communicate, problem-solve, and collaborate with their peers. By utilizing digital learning tools, students will be able to show their success!
My Project
Having the set of 5 iPads minis will enhance our learning environment in so many ways. I'm hoping to add to another set of 5 in an effort to eventually have 1:1 devices for my students. We are fortunate to be piloting the Quaver music curriculum in our class this year. Quaver music can be accessed via iPads minis for individual student interaction on topics such as music theory, instruments and knowledge, music creation, Quaver books, movement, playing music, recorders, and quizzes. The class set will allow for different structures of learning in my classroom. I plan to incorporate the iPad minis by using them in student centers and students could collaborate on group discoveries. Receiving this grant would help bring my students technology required for 21st century learning. These students are digital natives!
