My students are 25 kindergartners all learning in their own way and at their own pace. The majority of them have not had any experience with technology. An iPad mini is just the right size to get their little hands learning.
My kindergartners are part of an elementary community that is 100% free and reduced lunch.
The majority of them did not attended preschool. Half of them do not have Internet access at home. 6 of them have limited English language proficiency that limits their participation throughout the day. Despite these challenges, each day they walk through our classroom doors full of excitement and are willing to learn.
My Project
An iPad mini would present an additional tool for students to use during literacy and math center times. Books can be downloaded providing alternate listening opportunities. Math games can be downloaded and used for specific skill needs. Students can work on handwriting and story creation in an non-traditional way. The iPad mini's small size and light weight makes handling easy for little kindergarten hands. With the Guided Access feature, I can help them stay focused on their learning by ensuring they are using the apps most beneficial to their needs.
The iPad mini be used for reading, writing, and math while laying the foundation for those skills needed throughout life to succeed in our ever changing digital world.
These 5 and 6 year olds will always be working with technology. An iPad mini would help them start their journey on the right foot when they have so many other challenges holding them back.
