This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in my classroom is one filled with a lot of laughter and competition. My students love math and love practicing new concepts. My biggest challenge in the classroom is being able to challenge students and help those that need additional support. An iPad mini would make it a lot easier.
My students love math!
They love practicing new concepts and they absolutely love competing against each other. They are learning new math facts and concepts and also how to win and lose respectfully. The math levels in my 2nd grade class range from a beginning kindergarten to the middle of third grade level. It breaks my heart to see students who are below grade level and struggle with simple addition. With 18 students in my classroom, there are many students who are practicing math facts that are too difficult for them. I want to make all of my students feel successful in math by being able to solve math problems they are comfortable with and feel confident doing so. By using an iPad mini, students would not know what math facts the students are practicing.
My Project
There are lots of ways that my class would use the requested iPad mini and a protective case, in math. With the new standards in math, students are being asked to explain their thinking. Students will use the iPad to record their thinking, to express their thoughts to the teacher and fellow classmates. It also can be used as a document reader, so that students can quickly share their work to the whole class by connecting it to our projector. We would play games that help our problem solving and allow us to practice our math facts, as well as have friendly competitions with other students. We also would have a scavenger hunt, where students would be able to compete in teams to solve problems together. This technology would allow my students to benefit in mathematics throughout our learning day.
I believe that every student should have the opportunity to shine.
With your help, I can bring a smile to students’ faces throughout the day as they engage in their learning and practice skills that will be used every day. There is no better feeling, than that of a child running to you to share their excitement while practicing critical skills.
