My students need individual iPads and sturdy cases to help seamlessly integrate technology into our daily learning, such as math review, responding to reading, and celebrating our writing, as well as connecting with families.
My school community has had a challenging past year. Many families in the area were impacted in one way or another by Hurricane Harvey. Some of our students were directly affected, while others graciously allowed friends and family members who were displaced to stay with them during their rebuilding process. The community missed over a week of school and when the students returned, they each had their own questions and personal story to tell. However, this event helped strengthen not only our school family but our community.
Students are growing up in the world full of technology.
In my classroom we are determined to discover ways to incorporate students' passion and interest in technology; this will help students use technology as a tool to enhance their learning. By utilizing technology with so many different options/apps, I ensure that each student's individual learning style & preference is acknowledged.
My classroom consists of 22 students from varying socioeconomic backgrounds, some of which include English Language Learners and special needs students. Together we are a classroom family that encourages each students' individual growth, progress, success, and learning style. Each student feels confident and safe to learn in a way that best helps them.
My Project
Having an iPad for each student in the classroom will open up many opportunities. We will be able to use apps to connect with families during the day in numerous ways. We can send families pictures, drawings, and/or videos of things such as writing samples, students explaining their finished math stations, students reading during guided reading groups, predictions of science experiments, comprehension activities from a book read aloud, daily math review to reinforce at home....the list does not end there!
When students have individual iPads as a tool to explore and display their learning, the possibilities are endless.
Students are picking up technology quicker than we are, so we must find ways to continue their growth and passion. We will use QR codes that connect to different videos, such as staff members teaching the students about sight words. We will use apps that allow students to create a finished product in several different ways such as animation, pictures, verbally explaining, or slideshows. This will help reach each individual student's learning style. Best of all, students will be able to learn from each other, as well as connect with other classrooms globally.
