My students need an Apple iPad to use as an online resource/tool.
I am teacher to the perfect combination of a diverse set of 42 fourth grade students from a high poverty area in Yadkin County, NC. The majority of my students are faced with adversity daily.
My students come from all walks of life.
Eighty percent of the students in our school receive free or reduced price lunch due to their socioeconomic status. Despite all the obstacles they face daily, my students are all very loving, caring, compassionate, creative, and helpful, smart and active!
There is an online resource that can be used for both math and reading to help students make tremendous amounts of growth as well as giving the teacher a wealth of information and insight as to how student performed, what they have mastered, what they need help on. It groups the students and provides lessons and materials to teach, re-teach and use in small groups. It is a learning program but the students enjoy it because it has fun characters, videos, and ways for the students to earn coins which they can "spend" to play games after earning so many games. We need an iPad to access it.
Through these lessons and games, the students grow by leaps and bounds, which means a struggling student can grow up to one grade level in a year when this program is used with fidelity!
It not only helps struggling students, but those students on or above grade level are also challenged so that they too can grow!
