I am excited and very grateful to be working with such fantastic sixth graders. We have 46 students, and we are so lucky to have our sixth grade 15:1 program as a part of our team. In our awesome bunch of students, we have many students who come from different backgrounds and learn in different ways. Our classroom includes special education students, students who receive Academic Intervention Services (AIS), general education students, and students from a variety of economic backgrounds.
We work hard to make sure our students are working in an engaging, fun, and safe environment that meets their own learning needs.
Our classroom focuses on providing authentic, hands-on learning opportunities that shape students into leaders of the future.
My Project
This project will fund an iPad and a protective case for my students to use on multiple occasions. In science, students complete a large research project on severe weather and the impacts severe weather has on a community. They are presenting their findings and how to help at a community day event. This iPad would help several students complete research, find photos, create presentations and use different apps such as Green Screen App. In science, we would be able to record our findings during experiments and watch them to find if variables and processes were set-up/completed correctly. Besides our two math blocks, our students can use the iPad in math class, in small groups and as morning work. There are several apps that correlate directly to the standards we are teaching in class. Students could use the apps as a reinforcement activity to strengthen the skills and strategies taught in class.
Having access to technology in our classroom would support students in both math and science, allowing them to work collaboratively together on various tasks.
