Do you remember how you thought you would never be able to learn your ABC's and 123's? This is how my students feel every day and having an iPad would help them become successful, confident learners.
My classroom consists of boys and girls in kindergarten, first and second grades.
They are struggling learners who also have some behavioral needs which inhibit their learning. Trying to find differentiated ways to help them learn is important and I believe having an iPad would help improve behavior and assist them in being successful learners. Most of my students do not have any technology in their home and this would give them an incentive to make those good choices and be leaders in and out of the classroom.
My Project
Having an iPad in the classroom would enable students to be proactive learners. Social stories would be available to students who need some assistance with making good choices. The students would be able to make their own social story to watch every morning on school/classroom expectations. This puts them in the driver's seat of their own learning and behavior. The students would also be able to practice fine motor skills, learn/practice ABC's & 123's, have stories read to them while practicing reading. The opportunities are endless with the apps out there for learning.
An iPad is important to help close the achievement gap both academically and behaviorally.
It is also incorporating 21st Century Skills for students in the classroom. Most importantly, it will help make learning fun for the students.
