I have over 400 curious minds who come into my classroom, each week, ready to learn about art: both the history and the practice of making it. The students I have are in a wide range of ages 5-14 and grades kindergarten through 8th.
For some of my students, this is the first year they have attended my art class, and they are eager to participate!
For others, this is another year for them to learn and experience new things. My students are bright and energetic, with creative minds that shock me sometimes, with the great ideas they come up with. Many of the children I teach have a very hard home life, their parents are both working two to three jobs to scrape by, they are homeless, or they come from a broken family.
The goal of my classroom is that no matter where they come from, or what is going on outside of school, the students have the same opportunities and materials as students in the schools around here. It can be hard at times, but with the support of people like you, I am able to give these students an amazing art class each year.
Having an iPad with cases will allow for the art class at my school to move into the twenty-first century. Many forms of art these days are digital and using it as a resource for students with who have special needs. Without technical students are not able to receive the best education possible. The iPads will allow the older students to work in groups so that they can create a stop-motion animation project. The students will create the story, draw a storyboard, and then use the iPads to make the movie. The younger students will be using the iPads to learn how to document their artwork with pictures and to record artist statements about their work.
The projects that the students will be creating teach more then just art.
They teach team work, collaboration, public speaking, and technology skills. Technology is becoming a universal language in the world and that is a language that I would like to teach my students through your generous donations.
