My Students

My class consists of 25 enthusiastic, energetic kindergarteners! COVID-19 has impacted these students due to preschool closures, remote learning, and at-home learning. Because of this--as a whole--my students have had a difficult time adjusting to a formal school learning environment, especially in regards to academic, social, physical, and mental kindergarten readiness. With more time in isolation and less time spent on formal learning, social play, and utilizing fine motor skills, students' abilities have been notably limited when entering kindergarten. As the year continues, their abilities have improved and increased significantly. It is my hope to continue to provide my students with the tools, skills, and environment needed to make school a positive and successful experience, where all students are able to thrive and learn.

My Project

As it stands, I only have enough working headphones for five of my students to use at a given time. To get a supply of headphones, enough for each student in my class would be extremely helpful. This would provide me with the opportunity to have whole-class technology/instruction time yet still gear learning towards individual needs and skill levels. Because the headphones provide a natural sound barrier from other iPads being used in the same area, students will stay focused on the task in front of them rather than on those around them. And because the programs they use on their iPads are programmed to teach at their specific level, students' individual learning will benefit greatly.

Because of COVID-19, we have relied on technology and our knowledge and skills to use it more than ever before.

These headphones will provide me with more opportunities to help students learn how to effectively use and navigate the technology available to them. In essence, this will help them establish strong foundational technology skills, which are an essential part of what we do in our everyday lives.
