Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a city that has been ranked the number one most dangerous city in the country. We have a high level of poverty and the problems in the community are felt in our schools.
Many of our students do not have strong parental support and guidance.
We have students that go to school full-time and work several part-time jobs to help sustain the livelihood of their families. While the students have an assortment of obstacles they face every day, I also say that they are hard-working and intelligent individuals. It is my job to ensure that when they graduate; my students are prepared to be functioning citizens in society.
As a teacher in a Title I school district, I observe that many of my students lack the basic necessities for school. I want my students to be successful in everything that they do.
My Project
The addition of an iPad into our classroom has been an invaluable experience for my students. The various free math apps available through the App Store help reinforce skills and concepts that we learn in the classrooms. The iPad also provide assistance with everyday instructions. Because I teach special ed math, the iPads come in handy with I need to do mini lessons or differentiated instruction. The iPad is a great resource for kinesthetic and visual learners. The iPad is a versatile tools when it comes to instruction. Students can help one another develop quick research skills. Students can work on the iPad individually or collaboratively. The iPad is an inevitable device of the 21st century classroom. My students and I are definitely looking forward to accessing learning through technology.
