Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are culturally, ethnically, and academically diverse. Over 65% of the students I work with come from non-native English speaking families with many arriving to the U.S. for the first time. Also, over 93% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch due to the family's low socioeconomic status.
As a teacher in a low-income and high poverty school district, many of my students are struggling readers.
Despite the difficulties my students endure in and out of the classroom, they truly enjoy coming to school. I strive to foster that enjoyment and create meaningful learning experiences for my students.
My Project
My students have been learning to code and wish to advance in the field of robotics. An iPad will assist with usage in our robotics center and in STEM club. Our children can use the iPad to create coded projects using Spheros, and Dash and Dot robots that we currently have. An iPad will also offer the opportunity to expand our skills by using additional apps that are only available on the Apple operating system.
Having an iPad in the Library will help my students on many different levels.
The iPad will allow students the opportunity to use their higher level thinking skills to program, create videos, and interact with the world around them. All we need is an iPad and we are on our way to creative, fun, and meaningful learning experiences!
