This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a class of 29 fifth-grade students in the Mission District of San Francisco. This group has many potentials, so I'm looking to use technology to help them grow. I'm very impressed at how they are handling distance learning! I recently earned my Masters in Educational Technology from CSU- Fullerton. I'm looking to implement some of the tech strategies that I learned about in that program.

This class has been crushing it this year and is developing useful technology skills.

I'm a firm believer that students need to be skilled in using technology to be prepared for their future. They are quick to catch on and have fun using the technology resources I brought to the class. I hope donors can help me bring in new resources that can enhance the learning experience.

My Project

In my classroom, we spend time every day implementing social-emotional learning (SEL) to help promote skills involving self-awareness, self-management, empathy, and goal setting. In our 5th grade class, we are establishing a Peace Corner that will serve as a safe space for students to take time to regulate their emotions and implement the social-emotional skills that we practice daily. This space is meant for any student who feels like they need a few minutes to themselves.

The addition of an iPad in this space will allow students to listen to calming sounds, follow along with breathing exercises, stretch, or explore our Virtual Peace Corner.

Given the tumultuous few years that Covid-19 has brought my students, it is important to me to provide them with a designated space within the classroom that is complete with the tools they need to cope and self-regulate.
