This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are creative and driven. They love technology and the opportunity to work collaboratively beyond the confines of the school day. They are innovative. They are driven. They are supportive of one another.
When I hear that my students want to continue working on their projects after the school day concludes, I jump for joy!, This is especially gratifying knowing that most of my Detroit metro area students are at risk and come from poverty.
They LOVE telling stories using technology as a tool to bring their stories to life.
My Project
I would like to purchase one iPad with a case to give my students more opportunity to produce, record and edit video projects outside of the school day. One of the best affordances of the iPad is that there is an editing app that comes with the iPad called iMovie which allows the user to do all of their editing on the device.
Being able to edit videos from home has been one of the biggest difficulties my students have in my video production classes.
This is not because video editing from home is required, but because video editing is something students WANT to do. It is amazing to see the pride on their faces when they are able to borrow someone's iPad or work on their friend's laptop to complete a video that was shot and edited the night before and ready to air on our broadcast the next day. They want to do more of this.
