My students need an iPad to learn by engaging three learning modalities: visual, auditory and kinesthetic.
Do you remember what it was like learning without technology? My students are from the technology generation, but have not yet been able to use technology to help them with their comprehension of the core subjects.
My students are economically disadvantaged, have one or more disability that effects their learning, and are severely behind academically.
They attend a school that consists of 98% economically disadvantaged students. Our school gets a majority of it's funding from the title one program. We do not have enough funding to provide my students the use of technology in their everyday learning. There are over 1100 students currently enrolled in our school. The school mission is to provide an enriched educational environment in which students expand their academic abilities regardless of their diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. We prepare students to be critical thinkers, problem solvers, and responsible productive citizens. I strive to live up to the school's mission statement, and your donation for an iPad will help me do that.
The learning styles and needs of young children require tactile, visual, and auditory experiences. Young children need practice and repetition with the many concepts that are part of pre-reading and early math learning. Children gain from working together, guided by a teacher, and yet they also need the leeway to work at their own individual speed and developing skill level. Based on the experiences of educators in this country and around the world, we would like to implement iPads as a learning device that can provide unique and rich learning experiences for this age group. Students will be able to work in multiple modalities (tactile, visual, and auditory) that will motivate them to practice new concepts and enhance their ability to share their thinking and learning. The applications written for this age group include immediate feedback that motivates either correcting mistakes or moving forward to new challenges. An iPad would do all of this.
Here are just a few examples of ways in which the current curricular goals in our school can be individualized, met and enhanced with the use of the iPad.
Early literacy experiences with sound-symbol connections and recognition Shaping letters and numbers in the correct form Voice recording capabilities to facilitate storytelling, creating class-made audio books in the reading corner, and sharing a student's thinking.Read More
