My students need an iPad to be able to create our newscast and other videos. Currently, we are using my cellphone. An iPad would let kids experience new software and technology!
Lighthouse Community School serves students who have been in foster care, experienced homelessness, or are at risk of not graduating from high school. Students from all neighborhoods of Cincinnati come to our school. We try new approaches in teaching and discipline to give our students a second chance at success. Every student deserves a quality education, no matter what their background is and that’s what we try to achieve at Lighthouse. LCS is a safe place for many students who don’t have a place to call home. We value building strong relationships with all of our students to build a positive school community.
My Project
My students love creating a newscasts to share with the school, but right now, we are using my phone. This makes it difficult for students to help in the filming and editing. An iPad with iMovie will let my kids film and edit the newscast so it is perfect to share!
Each week we write a newscast and students each have their own section to write, research and produce.
We then film the newscast and share it on Fridays with the entire student body and staff. This project gives students a sense of purpose and responsibility. Having a final product that can be shared and admired brings students joy and confidence.
