My Students
I teach special needs students in Prek-2nd grade who come from diverse ethnicity and socio-economic background. They are energetic and curious, love learning and are enthusiastic to discover new paths towards achieving their academic goal. They are mostly visual learners who are at various levels in skill acquisition and content area mastery.
For my students, new information is better seen in pictures or hands-on for learning to occur meaningfully.
I love the close-knit relationship we have created, having spent years together in the wide grade span. This has encouraged easy partnership and collaboration as older students lead and teach the younger ones during group activities.
My Project
The use of technology is entwined in almost all part of our daily life. Currently, my 11 students share two Ipad during center rotations to access needed skill programs and applications for phonemic awareness, decoding, reading, writing and Math practices etc, which avails only four students the opportunity of using technology daily. These foundational literacy skills need daily practice and review to support additional/advance learning. The Ipad, Ipad case and headphones that will be donated to us will enable my students to learn at their own pace these vital skills in their curriculum as they will have more opportunities to use technology to access various concepts and lessons. They will also have the ability to go back for clearer understanding, slow down or go ahead on any given concept of choice.
Technology is an effective way to connect with students of all learning styles as it will help my students stay engaged, connected and creatively learn to collaborate across teams.
Using the Ipad and headphones in the classroom will enable them become more responsible, by taking the lead sometimes while I, the teacher becomes the coach, content expert or facilitator instead of the Traditional passive learning model. Also, I will be able to attend more to my struggling students on a one-on-one level. We look forward to your donation to help equip my students for the outside tech demanding tasks and jobs.
