Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are 100% English learners and 100% amazing! Our school is located in Atlanta, GA near a designated refugee resettlement center that includes 60,000 refugees and represents over 150 different ethnic groups. This nearby neighborhood is often referred to as "the most diverse square mile in America" due to the high refugee population. You can often hear these non-English languages walking around our local neighborhood, which is why I love this area! I am honored to teach these sweet students and excited that they are our future!
My Project
The iPad will be an amazing tool to use for students who are brand new to the country and need much more individualized attention. This would be something that they can use to learn the basics of the English language using online language acquisition programs. It will also give them a sense of accomplishment by being able to complete tasks given to them in another language. It will even assist them in vocabulary by being able to lookup unknown words and look at pictures and sentences related to that vocabulary. This will greatly improve the necessary language skills needed for a student coming to a U.S. school for the first time.
