Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 3rd graders are awesome goal orientated students with a drive to see growth within themselves. It's awesome to see their eyes light up when they see their hard work payoff. We are currently working and striving to meet end of year goals and are making excellent gains. I am beyond proud of thier accomplishments thus far. These kids understand and are determined to excel in life. I feel that they are beginning to believe they can make an impact on their future by working hard now. They are our future!
My Project
Kids and technology seem to go hand in hand. When students get presented with a task that involves technology they get excited about using a tool other than just paper and pencils. Unfortunately my students do not all get to experience using technology on a daily basis due to our limited resources. Currently we have 6 iPads and 3 desktops in our classroom. Students usually work in pairs or triads, when working on an assignment, which makes their work space a little crowded. While they are happy and excited to work on whatever device is given to them, I know that an extra iPad would help ease over-crowding issues. Our goal is to have a 1:1 ratio!
My eager learners’ world would light up at the possibility of using learning tools at school that they may not be able to use at home.
Students can also get extra screen time and be able to become more familiar with apps and programs that are needed in the 21st century. We have recently been introduced to robotics and applications such as Seesaw and Flip Grid for the iPad. My students have found these opportunities to be captivating and useful in their learning growth. I find that they help motivate students to become better presenters, speakers and innovators. New applications have helped me give them the confidence to share ideas and they are able to provide feedback on peer assignments. With an extra iPad, students will have better access to these and other apps that are not as easy to use and manipulate on a computer due to the inability to record on our desktops.
