Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are pre-K through 5th graders who are currently learning from home. They are imaginative and fun-loving kids who are inspired by using technology. They come from low-income households and have not had much experience with the world outside their small community.
Though my students enjoy technology, it can be challenging to keep them engaged during our lessons.
Many have learning differences and challenges and need highly motivating activities to keep their attention. With schools being closed through the end of the year, I am seeking new ways to maintain their engagement and limit regression.
My Project
An iPad will help me to connect with students in a fun and meaningful way while we're apart. I work with students in elementary school to help them improve their communication skills through speech therapy. Some of my students need help learning to make certain sounds, while others struggle to put their thoughts together to express themselves. These challenges can be especially difficult to manage during these difficult times.
An iPad would give me the ability to virtually connect with students and continue to teach them new skills while schools are closed.
I could screen share some of the many educational and informational apps that are available. For students who have access to technology, I could also train their parents to continue working with them until school is back in session. And of course, when school does resume, I could continue to utilize this new technology while working with students face to face.
