My students need more support once they get home and start homework.This iPad would allow me to record my lessons each day so students could reference them.
My classroom environment is very engaging! Since I teach lower level students, I am regularly thinking of ways to make Algebra 1 more exciting and engaging. I sing songs, and come up with clever ways to help them learn. My students tell me I need to make a "Greatest Hits" album with all my fun songs
My students struggle with math.
They were not able to complete Algebra 1 their 8th grade year due to their lack of understanding. I teach year 1 of the two year Algebra 1 program. It is called Foundations. I also teach Opportunity students, who are low level and many times low income students with no at home support. They struggle to get homework done at night, among many other struggles.
I don't have many major discipline issues with my students. I think they are wonderful and want to increase their learning!
My Project
With the iPad, I will record myself teaching each day. There is a wonderful app called Showme where I can upload my lesson (pdf or power point) and using the iPad, I can draw on the document and record my voice as I write on the screen.
My plan is to make this a part of my every day teaching and upload my videos to You Tube and make them public for my students to see. I feel that this will help my struggling students while they're at home working on homework. This also can be a resource for parents to watch if they help with homework. AND- they can use this to help study for quizzes and end of unit exams.I am very excited to get an iPad, and will make sure to sing my fun math songs to help my students as well. This tool will help my kids invaluably. There are so many times my kids say they wish they could get extra help! I am certain this will help so much!
This will change my classroom because I will be free to walk around the room while teaching .
I do not like being confined to my board while teaching. I want to be able to carry the iPad and write on it, while its projected on the screen. I can then see those kids in the back who may not be paying attention . I can also help kids during a specific example and give them quick one on one help. My students will have a better learning experience and I will become a stronger teacher.
