Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
To love physics means to be able to do physics, to explore the world around them, and to have fun learning in the lab. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic has given us all the opportunity to learn how to be creative with labs, learning, and life at home and online! In order to continue to bring life to the creative minds and future NASA astronauts that my students are, they need access to an online platform to still be able to engage with the exploration of physics.
Though life may be challenging at home, school and engaging science experiences provide a safe and joyful environment that students need.
Our school is a traditional high school in an urban district, and the school has recently left turn-around status. Our students are about 90% minority, and over 80% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. In addition, over 42% of them are classified as English Language Learners.
My Project
As a high school affected by the pandemic, many students are learning in unusual circumstances. The materials in this project will help ALL my students access learning in a virtual setting. COVID does not look like it is making a rapid exit in our lives quite yet. Thus, I need to adapt my classroom and teaching practices to meet the needs of all students. With an iPad, lessons can be delivered in multiple different platforms so that all students are able to engage with learning. Your support will help me (the teacher) and my students to normalize learning as best that we can and still continue to build our physics knowledge foundation. Thank you!
