My role as a kindergarten, first grade and second grade special education teacher requires me to incorporate sensory and emotional regulation tools and strategies into the typical standards of these grades. My students have a variety of backgrounds, that make their learning profiles unique. However, each of my students has difficulty regulating his/her emotions and behaviors. Having the sensory and coping materials available to these students will allow them to de-escalate and return to their academics quicker and more efficiently. By the end of the year, I want my students to possess the necessary independent skills to access grade level curriculum.
My Project
Currently, we have 2 iPad minis in our classroom that we are unable to use because we don't have cases for them. I am too worried that they will get broken while being used without cases, so we aren't able to use them right now.
Additionally.
we are looking to get a weighted blanket to help us when we feel overwhelmed, stressed or upset. Right now, we are borrowing one from another classroom, but they need one just as much as us. We hope to get these items for the new school year so we're able to be successful in the fall!
