I have an amazing class of sixth-grade students that have been affected by the Camp Fire in Butte County, California. These students are all from Paradise and Magalia. Most of my students lost their homes during the fire on November 8th. Our school is located in the center of the community that was completely destroyed two months ago. It has been amazing to see their courage and resilience in the aftermath of this event.
This project will go a long way to provide a fair and equitable education to students that have been through one of the most traumatic events in California history.
My Project
This project will give our students access to an Apple iPad, and a Makey Makey invention kit for our classroom. With an iPad in the classroom, the possibilities for learning are near endless. I will be able to wirelessly display educational apps to our projector which will open up an entire new door of opportunities for our students. The Makey Makey invention kits are a unique device that I have seen used in many ways as a very creative introduction to computer programming, something that is becoming increasingly important in elementary education. My ultimate goal with this project is to provide 21st century learning opportunities to students that have been disadvantaged.
