My students need technology such as an iPad and case in the classroom to make their experience with different content to be more interesting and differentiated.
A typical day in my classroom has some whole group learning and demonstrating. We have small groups where we have center rotations. Some students have a turn on the technology. We do not have enough technology in our classroom for everyone to get a turn each day. We are hoping to get more.
My students vary greatly in their abilities and understanding of concepts.
They work hard to learn all that they can. Technology is very helpful in allowing them to learn in a variety of ways. We are limited to the amount of technology that we have in the classroom. Some of my students have the ability to read on a third or fourth grade level even though they are only in second grade. While other students struggle to get to grade level in their reading. The same is true for their math abilities. The students love when we can bring science and social studies into the class as well. They love to learn, but some of them have limited technology resources at home to boost this learning even more. They love technology and love learning with it.
My Project
The students really enjoy using math applications and reading applications daily on technology. However, with our limited amount, not everyone can get a turn each day as I would like. This type of learning is very exciting for them and helps to motivate them to work even harder than they already do. We have recently started using a mathletics program. Each student has a goal to get at least 1,000 points each week. This allows them to get a certificate. However, without being able to get on some of technology, it is difficult for everyone to have a chance to reach this goal. They also love using all of the reading applications as well. There are some reading applications that help with fluency and others that help with learning of comprehension. This helps with the differentiation within our classroom. There are also a lot of applications that include science and social studies topics.
Donations to this project will allow us to have this ipad in our classroom.
Being able to use the ipad will allow more students the opportunity to learn using the variety of applications in reading, math, science, and social studies. More opportunities for differentiation will also be opened with this ipad in our classroom. This will help the students get to the next level of learning. It will allow some students to surpass their goals.
