My students need to hold and use an iPad which would enable them to go to apps that aren't accessible through regular computers. An OtterBox would keep it safe!
What if you had lived nine years and never touched an iPad? A typical day in a computer lab is very busy with research, problem solving, and projects. My students are creative, talented, and above all, very smart! We need an iPad for the magic that comes alive when a child starts swiping!
Our students are brilliant, imaginative, and hard-working!
Our primary school is a large rural school with over 750 students who visit the computer lab weekly. Students range in age from four to ten years old. Many students receive free or reduced lunch, and we are a Title I School. Resource students come to the lab with regular classes, so they can experience technology too. Our students are involved in project based learning weekly. They depend on having access to the computer lab to research a topic, and print information and pictures to go along with it. As a teacher, I can just picture the look on their faces when I tell them to use the iPad today.
My Project
Many of the students I teach have never touched an iPad. The majority of my students don't have access to computers or iPads at home. We have computers, but not enough. Our district is the most supportive of technology in our area, but our resources are very limited. As a teacher, I would like to use the iPad in a center where students can rotate to use it. Kindergarten and First Grade students will increase their reading and comprehension ability. Second and Third grade students will improve in math. It is my dream that students will become successful! Students can use the iPad to view videos when they don't understand concepts. The students can take virtual field trips. The students will be able to use apps for speech, hearing and vision. There is even an app that will turn an educational text into a rap! The students will use the iPad for boosting creativity, researching challenging problems, and capturing new ideas through the use of engaging apps!
Students will be excited to know they have iPad Air Time!
My project will make a difference in over 750 lives. Students will research projects through Instapaper, gather web clips using Evernote, and create media rich documents with Pages. Students will have their very own mobile science lab, and can use Star Walk to see the stars right above in the sky. Students can create collaborative video projects using CollabraCam. In case you haven't touched an iPad, those are iPad apps!
