My Students

"The single biggest problem with communication is the illusion that it has taken place," George Bernard Shaw once said. My class could use a place to make sure that that illusion never occurs. We need a communication center to store communication binders and post important notices for parents

My students come into my class excited, anxious, nervous, and full of energy.

First grade is a thrilling year, but also one filled with firsts (first time all day, first time in cafeteria, etc.). My first graders need lots of attention and TLC to make the transition from kindergarten, but they are a very rewarding group to teach. They work hard and learn so much during this important year. Since first grade is such a big transition year, parents are often very welcome to be involved in our class.

My Project

This communication center will be such a help because parents will always be aware and notified of homework, changes in schedules, upcoming events, supplies needed, conferences, and will be able to work in tandem with our class. Parents can ease so many fears and anxieties of my first graders when they know of schedule changes. Parents also play a vital role in our class, coming in as volunteers or class readers. The communication center is where I will be posting notices for parents, and checking binders for returned notes from parents. These binders are checked daily, at the door, as students enter so it is vital that I have a place to quickly check notes, jot replies, and store binders.

This is a very important project to our class because parents are such an undervalued resource.

I want our class to always have a clear communication policy with parents so that we can take advantage of this untapped resource!
