My class will be made up of 22 third grade students who attend a Title 1 school. It is important that they receive the same opportunities and access to literature as other students who do not attend title 1 schools. The school has a very diverse population.
With 46% of students being English Learners, it is very important that they have access to a great classroom library filled with books for their enjoyment.
Also, since many of the students coming to school come from low income households, these students may not have access to books at home. The classroom library will be a resource for students to develop and grow their love for reading to become the successful students they are destined to be.
My Project
Since I am a first year teacher I am in the process of building a classroom library for students to enjoy and learn from. With many of the students coming to school as English being their second language and/or low income households, my students may lack exposure and the resources to literature.

Having these materials will aid in building a vocabulary background and fluency.
With the help of you, we can provide access to exciting and engaging books to students who may not have the opportunity at home. The sets include non-fiction, fiction, classic literature, etc so that students can explore different literature. The text sets chosen for the classroom library will be the beginning of a rich and engaging classroom library that students will be able to enjoy both in the classroom and at home.
