Invisible String: Books to Remind Kindergartners That They Are Loved
Help me give my students their own personal copy of the book "The Invisible String" so that they can remember that we are connect with love even when we have to stay home and can't be together.
My kindergarten students were having an awesome school year! They were learning so much, including learning to read. Then came the coronavirus pandemic. Our school closed on March 13 and won't reopen this year. Suddenly, my students had their whole world changed. They miss coming to school so much.
Many of my students lack consistent internet access, so distance learning can be tricky.
Each Monday, I send ideas for activities to my students' families. I try to include some activities that are screen free. Since most of my students have access to at least a cell phone, I meet with them a few times a week using Google Meet. My school is focusing on students' mental health, so this is a great way to spend some time with my students. We normally have Show & Tell, listen to a book that I read and just have time to talk with each other.
My Project
My kindergarten classroom is a safe space for my students. In our classroom, students are loved and affirmed for being themselves. We celebrate the uniqueness and diversity that make us each of the students special. The coronavirus pandemic caused my kindergartners to be removed from this caring environment. When my class video chats with each other, it is evident that they miss each other so much!
My students need a constant reminder that they are loved by their teacher and classmates even though we aren't learning together in our classroom.
The book, "The Invisible String," reminds children that they are connected to those they love with an invisible string. This invisible string is called love and connects people even when they aren't together. I am requesting a copy of this book for each of my students. I will write a personalized note to each child on the inside cover of the books before delivering the books to their homes in a contact free manner.
Thank you for taking the time to read my project idea! I really appreciate it!
