This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are from low socio-economic homes. We are a Title I school located in the inner-city of Mobile and all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Some children come to school without proper clothing for the weather, worn or missing socks, shoes that are too small or worn. The impact of a downward economy has affected so many of our families. Our parents struggle to send many of the basic supplies and there are many things we as teachers provide from personal resources.
Students with the greatest need for readiness skills are selected first for our Pre K program.
Children who are chosen for this opportunity have a better chance for success in school.
Our tiny learners are so excited, eager to learn and love to come to school every day.
My Project
My co-teacher and I will use the laminating pouches to laminate uppercase and lowercase alphabet templates. We will then form uppercase and lowercase letters onto the templates using hot glue.
Students will be delighted to find the invisible letters and at the same time learn to recognize the letters of the alphabet.
We will need to use a generous amount of glue in order to make the letters thick enough and harder to tear apart. Once they are dry, they will peel right off of the laminated template. We will then put all the letters into a sensory bin filled with rice or beans and watch them disappear!
