I teach twenty-six eager, enthusiastic, and inquisitive second graders! They work super hard and they love to explore, discover and learn. Learning is an exciting adventure in my very active classroom. I am trying to come up with lots of ideas and activities that will engage and inspire my students.
Our school motto is, "Every child, Everyday...Whatever it takes." It is my desire as a teacher to do whatever it takes to create an environment for my students to be the best learners that they can be.
With your help, my students will continue to be excited about learning!
I am requesting materials which will help bridge the learning gaps that have been created due to the pandemic. Many of my students are showing gaps in our second grade classroom that I have never observed before on such a grand scale; ie. fine motor skills, phonemic awareness, reading fluency, social and emotional understanding and coping strategies have all been impacted.
The snap build sight word tools, magnetic tiles, touch read phonics, and literacy games like Can Do!
will allow my students opportunities to fill these gaps they have in phonemic awareness and reading fluency before moving on to third grade. Additionally, the sequencing and Splash reading games will assist in building comprehension, which is vital for building confidence for third grade. In addition to strengthening my students academically, they also need extra fine motor practice.
Due to many doing virtual learning beforehand, their small hands need strengthening to be better writers and crafters. The geo boards and manipulatives will help their handwriting and scissor skills. Lastly, the Building Empathy Library will also nurture the whole child to teach empathy so that they become socially, mentally, and emotionally healthier humans to better serve our community in the future.
